Re: 4 birds: pure Caspians or...?!

The 4th set of photos are way too poor, but the other three birds look like normal Caspian Gulls to me. As a remarkable coincidence, I came across PNKA myself today! It was in the harbour of Oostende, Belgium: http://waarnemingen.be/waarneming/view/89245952 The flight shots reveal a normal pattern ...

Re: Gull ID

hi antonio,

looks to be a marinus indeed, bill and tertial pattern being far from typical for this species. but i can't recall having seen such a covert pattern in any micha...

Re: ichtyaetus x cachinnans?

bump. am i totally wrong in thinking it could be a hybrid pallas's x caspian? both sp. breed together on a small sandy island offshore the danube delta.

Re: cachinnans yellow PHDK:pure or not?

salut alain,

personally i see nothing to suggest argentatus (or any other taxon's) involvement. bill a bit stubby but certainly within cachi variation!

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?

actually, having a look at it again on the big PC screen - can't really stick to my initial statement that it is a YLG...it looks too much cachi-like on plumage and there would be the chance of an oddie with dark underwing and short bill - maybe influenced by tatus genes...

3cy med gull x BHG?

hi guys,

what do you think? to me black is far too extended for a pure 3cy med gull in this bird, photographed yesterday by odysseas in north greece: http://www.birdforum.net/attachment.php ... 1408797975

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?

yes, I have seen it in micha although only once. such birds are difficult and a lot of other features should be checked. rectrices seem to be all 2nd gen., right?
