Re: 5 cy Caspian Gull?

Hi, Pretty strange bird indeed. For some reasons this bird doesn't look like a cachinnans in m opinion: - pattern in outer primaries: no tongues and much too black. p10 with only al small mirror - quite heavy bill - roundish head I wonder what a hybrid michahelles or herring x graellsi would look li...

Probably heuglini 1cy

Hi, Today, rising gullstar Merijn Loeve found this interesting gull at the dump of Dordrecht, The Netherlands. He showed me the pictures in the field and I suggested that it would be nice to have a closer look at this bird. It didn't show up again. Some things are pointing towards heuglini in my opi...

Re: Italy, large 1W gull

Due to the large proportions and the stage of moult in the scapulars, this could be a nothern one: argentatus.

Re: Interesting gull_South Finland_1.12.2012

In Dutch we would probably call this a 'mooie tatus': 3cy argentatus argentatus. Note the small white area's (moons) between the grey tongues and the black tips of the primaries.

Cachinnelis?

The previous post reminded me of this bird. We saw it two days ago (27.11.2012) on the dump of Barneveld, The Netherlands.
- Structure and tongues fits best cachinnans
- Colouration of the bare parts and iris better for michahellis

Anybody a guess?

Re: Barneveld today

this 1cy http://www.talk.gull-research.org/download/file.php?id=3580 has hellish strong patterned GCs for a pure cachinnans... lou So, what you're asking for is an open wing ;) Indeed, the GC are strongly patterned, but I have seen it more in otherwise pure looking cachinnans in the Netherlands. Th...

Re: mich?

Hi Luka, the 1w does look as a normal michahellis in my opininion. Pattern of the new scapulars and the inner primaries looks good. Either does the tail, cf: http://www.pbase.com/albertdejong/image/139144925
