Re: Barneveld 25-08-10

In addition to Theo, we also had this bird. Comparing it with an adult micha on the same pile, I noted that the legs were a bit paler, the orbital ring more orange, the mantle slightly lighter (more Herring) and the tip of p10 fully white. If I counted right, p6 is growing, while p7 is dropped and p...

Re: Westkapelle autumn 2010

This morning Theo and I spend some hours at the dike. Many candid HG juveniles, as you can see here below. Some juvenile HGs have molted half of the scaps already, others have done nothing yet. This bird (pic 2,3) seems a bit strange due to the plain tertials en inner hand. The 'h' word or just whit...

Re: close but no cigar?

It seems hard to find pictures of 2cy smithsonianus in (late) summer. I found some: http://www.pbase.com/m_muller/american_herring_gull http://www.birdguides.com/iris/pictures.asp?mode=search&sp=061095&rty=0&r=1&off=26841&loff=135139&v=0 (first picture) A look-a-like very similar to the bird of this...

Re: Westkapelle autumn 2010

Today two juvenile YLGs at Westkapelle, many ringed HGs from the neighbourhood (they are on the move, the colonies are almost empty) and some variety by this GBBG black JM45.
And this one of the present YLGs was as huge as a GBBG!

Re: close but no cigar?

Today the look-a-like cigar was still present at the same place. Here two pics of today. With a herring gull of the same age in the second picture.

Westkapelle autumn 2010

Theo Muusse and I checked Westkapelle this morning. Not many gulls on the dike, but we spend our time with reading rings. A ringed HG from the UK and a Danish bird. Also several metal Belgian HGs and some Dutch LBBGs. We also had two juvenile YLGs which reacted very well on our feeding activities. I...

Re: Today at Westkapelle

Very nice series! Next time, I 'll try to accompany. No birds to discuss, seems to be!?
