Gulls from South-East Kazakhstan_I
I had spent 2,5 months in East-Kazakhstan earlier this year (mid-April-end of June) doing fieldwork in the semidesert zone. Fortunately there was one spot- actually a bridge- where I could get close to gulls and I took the opportunity every time I was around to take pictures of them. It was close to...

Re: arrested moult in cachinnans
wow, these are spectacular pics of what i'd call the "eastern cachinnans" type with a lot of black down but on the same time long grey tongues which is not so typical for barabensis? how much intergradation between these two taxa? large p10 mirror placed distally and the deep "bays" of white primar...

Re: arrested moult in cachinnans
Hi Guys, Here are some pictures of a cachinnans/barabensis type gulls from South-east Kazakhstan (May-June, 2011.). Among 40 adult gulls black on P4 was quite common (in one case even up to P1!), but the extent of the black and the primary pattern looks good for cachinnans imo. Any thoughts on that?...

HG with yellowish legs?
Hi Guys, I took some pictures of this gull today (11.02.) at my local spot near Debrecen, Hungary. I would like to hear your opinion if this is a HG or something else..Some features seem to support it some don't. What I think: - 2nd picture, upperwing looks good for HG,CG but no YLG - 1st picture, u...

Re: Possible HG?
In my opinion, a clear identification of "argenteus" in field is impossible because there are clinal variation to argentatus. May be someone can correct me. The young bird with closed eyes in left part seems to be a cachinnans. Hi Ronald, I have tried to find a better picture of that particular gul...

Re: Possible HG?
It looks indeed quite good for a 2nd cy HG. Note that in German and Polish inland HG breeds too, often in hybridisation. Some HG from Baltic also migrate to the Adriatic Gulf in autumn/winter. What about the yellow colour-ring on the 2nd cy YLG in foreground? From Croatia? Interesting for me - I se...

Possible HG?
Hi Guys,
I have come across this smallish, quite pale bird which was strange for me from the very beginning. I would like to hear your opinion whether this could be a HG (maybe argenteus??) or not.
Pictures were taken on 2011.10.19. in Debrecen, Hungary.
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes,
Gabor
