Hi All,
I took these pictures of this strange (to me) gull today at my local spot near Debrecen, Hungary.
Is it possible that it's a HG or just a YLG with unusually pale tertials and greater coverts?
And also it should be a 1cy bird shouldn't it?
Thanks in advance,
Gabor

Re: Italy, probable Heuglin's Gull 2ndS
Hi guys, thanks for the replies.i'm glad i took another look of the pictures of this particular bird.there aren't too many accepted records of heuglini in Hungary. here are some more shots taken by Csaba Pasti on April 28th-29th 2010. these may allow to compare to YLG and assess the lenght of the le...

Re: Italy, probable Heuglin's Gull 2ndS
Hi Menotti, I have just come across your post and i remembered a gull i took pix of from earlier this year. I think my bird looks pretty much the same (except the leg color) as yours.. We (of course) couldn't ID it, so we agreed it's a graellsii/intermedius subspecies and that's all. Pictures taken ...

Looks like a near adult (obvious black band on the bill), michahellis on primary pattern - mirror on p10, more black on wingtip comp. to Herring and a good broad dark band on p5 with bonus markings on p4.

Herring or YLG?
Greetings,
Can you guys ID this bird? That's all i have of it.
Is it full-adult or the black markings on the bill shows a younger age?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Gabor

Re: Fuscus?
Contrary to the post I previously replied to this 2cy LBBG is a typical one! There's a considerable overlap in mantle colour between fuscus and intermedius , so basing your identification on just that criterium is risky to say the least. Assuming the picture has been taken recently (please post loc...

Theo
Thanks a lot.
That was really precise:)
Intermedius would fit in the line of other dark-backed-but-probably-not-fuscus gulls i have photographed here since April.

Gabor
