Heemskerk 11-10-09
Checked the beach today with Tom. A good day for Caspian Gulls. Despite a good number of LBBGs, only two colour rings (one 1cy from N Norway). Also my first yellow-legged Herring of the season.

Nearly arrested moult in Dutch ad LBBG
Note moult in the right wing: P8 > P7, P9 still present. The moult gap is only slightly larger in the left wing. Picture taken 09-10-09 in IJmuiden with Mars.

Re: unringed fuscus
A lot of fuscus on passage this year. Not only three ringed birds in Westkapelle, but plenty of unringed birds as well. This one's from IJmuiden from today.

Re: Vagrant 1cy in Connecticut?
Based on the pattern of the second generation greater coverts my first option would be LBBG, but after seeing thes open wing I'm not so confident anymore. Anybody cares to offer their 2 cents?

Re: Vagrant 1cy in Connecticut?
A second batch of images was sent after I informed about the date these pictures were taken: "These pictures show a better rendition of the color and I am including two others, one with smithsonianus Herring Gulls and one the only open wing shot taken. The year appears to 1997 or 1998 and the time i...

Vagrant 1cy in Connecticut?
These pictures were sent to me by Mark Szantyr:
"This bird was photographed in 1994 at Storrs, Tolland Co. CT and has been ID'd as everything by people from around the globe. I wonder if you would care to offer an opinion?"
