ad cachinnans (?)
Hi,
Yesterday this bird made me a bit confused at the Barneveld dump. The head, mantle colour as well as the primary pattern are looking good for cachinnans.
However, the heavy and yellow bill was pointing to michahellis. Cachinnans, michahellis or something between it? ...Lou?

Re: Caspian Gull wings
This one was present on December the 24th on the rubbish dump of Barneveld. With only a faint black spot on p5 and a light iris.

Re: Michahellis?
In my opinion, the pattern on the tail, wing and mantle fits better for GBBG. But I don 't have much experience with 2cy michahellis.

Re: That tricky 2cy's
Mmm, indeed. I just checked the original photo's. The inner five primaries are almost wholly grey. Maybe the solid tailband and rather contrasting markings in the wing confused us. The bill fits better for Herring either. That tricky.

That tricky 2cy's
I 'm always struggling with 2cy micha 's, and so did I last last wednesday on the dike of Westkapelle. Theo pointed out this one, I found it unclear until it flew away....

Re: variation in micha in Holland
Among up to ten 1cy's, this was the most advanced one on the beach of Westkapelle today. All scaps are done and nearly half of the coverts.
