Wouldn't a very clear 'string of pearls' be unusual in Herring? I can image that dark-winged Herrings exist but this shade of grey seems much too dark. Somehow it reminds me of a conspicuous LBBG-like 3cy bird that was present for a few weeks at my local patch in Amsterdam: http://www.xs4all.nl/~daa...

Greg's bird could (just) fit Herring I think? I've seen pictures of a similar bird from Paweł Gębski also from the Baltic coast.

I would be careful to draw any firm conclusions based on this bird. IMO it's hard to exclude any Herring influence in this individual.

Hallo Michal I think you should differentiate between moult pace and feathers patterns. Like Theo wrote, third generation feathers may look 'immature' but a bird can be quite advanced moult-wise. Actually I think your bird is pretty much on schedule for July. As we usually see Caspians in W Europe i...

The Common Gulls are ringed by Frank Majoor. And it's orange alright, that Finnish ring. We've seen the entire spectrum in Poland in 2004 (black, white, red, wine red, orange, yellow)!

Red Z is used for Czech Mediterranean Gulls. Do you have a picture of the entire bird Wolfgang?

Jan, how on earth could that bird be positively identified as a heuglini?
I think I got a little carried away, I concur it's probably a fuscus, here's another example of a bird with rather long tibia.
