Currently unprecedented numbers of Iceland Gulls reach the Dutch shores. Today's maximum count was five at a single locality! There a better characters regarding smithsonianus than the one you mention This is a European Herring.

Hybrid Herring x GBBG
Does anybody have experience with this hybrid? I came across this observation in the Netherlands. Especially the bill and (somewhat less obvious) the head shape remind me of GBBG.
