If Caspian, surely not a typical bird for me: short bill, large eye convey a non-Caspian expression. Did you score the bird according to Gibbins et al.?

Yes I agree but the unusually dark iris gives an odd look, I don't remember such a dark iris in our local michahellis.

Darwic ringing was done sometimes (not yearly) in the nineties by Tatjana Ardamatskaya and Antonia Rudenko. Rings came from Norman van Swelm. Maybe Greg Neubauer (Poland, member of this board) has further information. Personally I saw only 3 different colour-ringed birds from this project on rubbis...
