Russian gull ringread in Austria
Hello, another success in Austrian ringreading! Obviously motivated by my successful ringreading with several Ukrainian rings, yesterday Richard Katzinger and Sergej Ucakar have visited the gull hotspots around Krems/river Donau. They have read 3 rings of large gulls: yellow PUCT (again from Ukraine...

Re: They go south!
Yes, I have thought of your Caspian section, but it´s impossible to get closer, they are extremely cautious. Believe me, it took some hours to get the reading of PUBB, I had to change several times between Krems and Gneixendorf (some km´s) and I needed 3 attempts to be successful. Then I always take...

Re: They go south!
Hi PUND was the beginning of an influx of CG´s coming directly from Ukraine. On weekend I have managed it to read 2 further PUxx rings :D Together with an additional metalringed bird this winter I have been able to read 4 Kiev-rings so far, until this year in total I had only one from last year... O...

Re: Dark underwings
Hi, just at home and more time now. Otherwise - there would be perfect conditions now to observe gulls at Krems/Donau like I have done yesterday. Today blue sky, 0°C and ice, perfect to read rings... Maybe birds in juvenile plumage are darker? I think that such "dark" birds like this one I have show...

Re: Dark underwings
Good morning,
yesterday I had this one at Gneixendorf/Austria. I think there is more material, later, if I have more time.

Re: Strange ring on Blackheaded Gull
Thanks Ruud! Meanwhile I had the same idea. The observer did not take care of the gull species. I can understand that because Medgulls are extremely rare here in winter. I had only one some years ago, with Polish cr, also between BHG´s. Today I received already ZRU8´s life history, an interesting on...

Strange ring on Blackheaded Gull
Hi, today I have received a report with picture concerning a colourringed BHG observed yesterday in Vienna. I cannot identify this ring ( I had a look at the sites of Dirk Raes and Marco Basso) but maybe one of the experienced ringreaders here can help? The red ring on left leg has the white inscrip...

Re: They go south!
And another season... The very cold weather last days caused a sudden change - YLG disappeared and CG moved south, accompanied by some HG´s I have started in Wörth today and found a good mix of metalrings, unfortunately all of them only partially read. 1 Herring Gull with Finnish ring (HT 2....) 1 o...

Re: Juvenile ringed Caspian from east
The first juvenile colourringed CG from Ukraine has moved southwards already and was pictured on Zagreb rubbish dump. See Luka´s blog: http://cro-ringing.blogspot.com/ Although it had been very cold in the last days in Austria, I wasn´t able to look for gulls. The compost management at my local patc...
