Re: Possible HG?
The young bird with closed eyes in left part seems to be a cachinnans. Are you really sure about this, Ronald ? The central greater coverts are just visible, and they show rather thick, parallel brown bars as in Yellow-legged Gull. Also, bill shape and head shape look better for YLG. No, I am not s...

Re: Possible HG?
In my opinion, a clear identification of "argenteus" in field is impossible because there are clinal variation to argentatus. May be someone can correct me.

Re: Possible HG?
It looks indeed quite good for a 2nd cy HG. Note that in German and Polish inland HG breeds too, often in hybridisation. Some HG from Baltic also migrate to the Adriatic Gulf in autumn/winter. What about the yellow colour-ring on the 2nd cy YLG in foreground? From Croatia? Interesting for me - I see...

What a pity, that the ring-inscription ist unknown. But the Easteuropean rings have clips. But the ring looks quite large like Hiddensee (EA, size were better for GBBG). It is only speculation, but I guess to Lausitz origin.

Re: Adult birds from Poland - breeding colony
Well done. What about the partner, chicks are real from this combination? Sorry for my questions, but I saw also MedG x BlackHG interbreeding gone in the wind, because the mother was not faithfull.

Re: Adult birds from Poland - breeding colony
Quite interesting. For me it is unclear, if real hybrids mich x cach do exist. All probably cases I have seen yet in East Germany (breeders in Lausitz area) were arg (often omissus-Phenotype) x cach.

Re: Second calendar year, England 29 Jan 2011
Covert pattern is a bad feature. In this case within variation, I saw it similar also in (ringed) YLG.

I agree. Note the same colour of (worn) tertials and wing-coverts.
