Hi Willy,
this looks like a typical Kumlien's Gull to me.

Another odd Common Gull
As if an adult with double white mirror on P8 was not enough (see post by Spinus), here is a 2nd winter with a white mirror on P7!
Note that there is no mirror on P8, which creates a very odd wing pattern. And no, I did not photoshop this - honestly!
The mirror was absent in the right wing though.

Re: Could it be a hybrid Common Gull x Ring-billed Gull?
Rather than a hybrid, this is far more likely a Russian Common Gull (heinei).

Re: Presumed Kum and Age??
Hi Antonio, flight shots are definitely necessary here, both for ageing as well as identification... My guess for now is that this may be a (retarded) 3rd-cycle bird, because the bill colour looks a bit advanced for a 2nd cycle and some blue-grey median coverts are present. However, I am not yet con...

Re: CG with double mirror on P8 and other unusual adults
Thanks for these interesting photos!
I have never seen one with a double mirror on P8.
Do you have photos of 1st and 2nd winter birds too?

Re: Another odd gull....
This is certainly no smiths; see e.g. the dark inner primaries and white rump.
Lesser Black-backed Gull seems like the best bet to me.

Re: Yellow-legget gull or herring gull ?
I can understand the confusion but I would call this a Herring Gull because the plumage appears very fresh, and the inner primaries pale.
Also, the bird still has some juvenile lower scapulars.

Hi Gabor,
the black spots around the eye are actually head lice (i.e. parasites), so yes, this bird has some problems...
