Re: 4 birds: pure Caspians or...?!
hi emmanuel, the new guy looks perfect. but as for 006P i'm quite sure it is not a pure cachinnans (no deep tongues in outer primaries...) but probably a micha x cachi. some YLG are always around in black sea and they breed on crimea which is not too far from azov sea...! http://gull-research.org/ca...

Re: 4 birds: pure Caspians or...?!
Many thanks for your detailed reply, Lou. 11 + 13 J: the 'bird from 18.08' is indeed our 'problematic' bird (others come from GRO). I do think it's a pretty good cach (as Mars did, I assume), even if its bill, head and neck look rather short and thick while flying (any matter of angle?). But other ...

Re: 4 birds: pure Caspians or...?!
And foremost: what's your opinion about Tuesday's 5 unringed birds? http://www.talk.gull-research.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1078#p4278 Thanks for it! i suppose it is the bird from 18.08. (shown as standing in the post from 29.10. and in flight in your today's post). still it looks ok for cachi. poit...

Re: GBBG or HG?
...or cachinnans. admittedly there's little in this bird (apart somewhat from bill shape) reminding of cachinnans but if we assume this bird is somewhere from western european russia, a combo of pale/contrasting herring gull plumage and some 'eastern genes' (whatever features they support or cosuppo...

Re: Yellow-legged Gull or Great Black-backed Gull?
ola delfín,
it's definitely a michahellis. GBBG has shorter wings and doesn't moult coverts in first autumn.
best wishes,
lou
