Re: Faint pigmented Kumlien's?
Peter, you have a point. However, according to my knowledge few Kumlien´s does occur within glaucoides colonies in Greenland. Not that many, but e.g. David Boertmann has a photo of a par in Ilulissat: http://www.netfugl.dk/pictures.php?id=showpicture&picture_id=10132 and Lars Witting mentions that t...

Re: Faint pigmented Kumlien's?
Yes, very exciting. It would be interesting to hear whether the pattern I describe occurs in Newfoundland or if it is only seen on this side of the Atlantic, incl. Iceland. Is the later the case it may indicate that the influx this winter may have originated from an area which involves a high degree...

Faint pigmented Kumlien's?
When I look at the excellent work by Howell & Mactavish (2003) I think one type may be missing if it is a Kumlien’s Gull I have in mind. It is a type where the outer webs of the outer primaries are not obviously dark pigmented and approach the type a (stage 0) or somewhere between the type a (stage ...

Re: HG with extreme bare part colours
Thank for your comments and links to similar extreme coloured argentatus which by now have been reported from all around Denmark and least southern and eastern Sweden, northern Poland, Baltic Germany, however, individuals now are reported along their south-western migration route into Western Europe...

Re: Caspian? or hybrid in Denmark
This is just an update. The gull has now returned for its fifth winter in a row http://gulldk.blogspot.com/2011/12/possible-caspian-gull-x-herring-gull.html Personally, I find a cachinnans x argentatus-hybrid a possible explanation based on field observations and especially characters seen in last y...

HG with extreme bare part colours
Several such extreme individuals are seen at the moment in Denmark and at least in southern Sweden. They appear to more frequent right now than ever before. http://gulldk.blogspot.com/2011/12/herring-gull-larus-argentatus-with.html Does any have references for the explanation for such extreme colour...
