Hi Hans!
Of course in picutre ID fus.jpg theres a caspian behind the first bird Im not sure why the first bird in these image shouldn't be a LBBG i saw these bird in flight and there was lack of window in primaries, also very small size and bill fits good for me for fuscus overall impression in field was fuscus-like bird.
In second bird dark underwing, entire dark primaries, covers pattern looks like LBBG - i I thought that bit advanced moult could point for western bird.
Overall im not be persistent and im open for id-guidelines
Cheers
Michal

Re: Łubna, Poland
At least the first bird looks like a Baltic. The new second generation scapulars looks dark greyish against the paler buffish lower scapulars of the second bird, which also looks warmer in colour.Hans Larsson wrote:Nice pics Michal! Could the birds named fuscus actually be smallish YLG´s? At least the second bird seems a bit too worn and advanced in scapular moult. And behind the first there´s a Caspian lurking.
Best regards
Hans

Re: Łubna, Poland
Today at Łubna about 700 large gulls. Still lot of YLG 30% of total (and only one with ring).
Some pictures of LBBG, Caspian and tricky for me gull with green ring 227P.
Only one photo and no personal observations in field of these one. In photo for me its shows some mixed features of caspian and herring. What do you think about it?

Re: Łubna, Poland
Yesterday about 1300 large gulls at Łubna. Most of them was herrings but also 1cy fuscus and adult hyperboreus, either regular winter guest in each season.
Unfortunatelly rumors about closing Łubna makes true December 2010 is last month of dropping fresh rubbish. Next year they will start to swamp all terrain with ground.
We will never have in future so exciting (large, not sorted and recycle wastes) place like Łubna close to Warsaw, in the aftermath our that numbers of large gulls in Warsaw will probably decrease.
I attached few photos of various Caspian.
Cheers
Michal

Re: Łubna, Poland
Well, good news are that Lubna is still working - probably until June. So gullers are still welcome
Today about 1300 large gulls: 1 adult hyperboreus and 1 adult fuscus (dark mantle).
Below few photos of immature Capian gulls.
Cheers
