Larus fuscus heuglini?

Post by ski » Mon Nov 11, 2019 6:00 pm

Hi, could you help with this gull? Seen today (11.11.2019) at the waste tip Lulkowo (Poland) by colleague of mine Adam Loręcki.
As I was told the gull was conspicuously darker and rather larger one.
Correct me if I am wrong - in the spread wing picture I see P10 still growing and no white mirror on the P9.
Couldn't that indicate the Heuglin's gull or maybe Larus fuscus taimyrensis?

Sorry for quality of the photos.

Hi!

Instead of going into plumage features and primary pattern I think that the advanced primary moult, with the new p10 growing is better for a western LBBG. As a late moulter, heuglini would normally not be so advanced att this time of year. Check the heuglini and LBBG section here at GRO for more info.

Cheers JanJ
