Ringed Herring Gull

Post by Eric Hopton » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:04 pm

Hello everyone. This is my first post here so first of all I would like to say what an excellent site this is though I am a little in awe of the depth of knowledge on display. I hope this can only help my passion for gulls to grow.
These birds were photographed in Stavanger, Norway on June 27th 2011. They are both, I think 2cy Herring Gulls, very pale, very worn, with a metal ring on the right leg [unreadable] and a black ring with white letters on the left leg - the code on the first bird is J2995 and J2976 on the second. I have submitted a request for info to Euring but hoped someone here might know the origin of the bird or ring. Thanks in advance.

Colourrings with "J" are Norwegians. You should report it to Stavanger.

Hi Eric,

Welcome to this forum.
You can report such rings on this excellent site: http://www.ringmerking.no/cr/.

Thank you Ronald and Martin. The Norway link was great and I obtained life lists for both birds. They were both ringed locally and have been fairly local in their movements.
