Post by totoguti » Thu Dec 26, 2013 10:18 am

Dear All:
Last SW hard storm send us (NW Spain) some interesting birds.... Bucephala albeola, Some "white gulls" and yesterday a nice ad. philadelphia.... Searching for gulls at Pantin beach I found a niced and odd gull.
Dark mantle (Between our NW "lusi" and LBBG). Short legged, Only one white mirror ( P10), Folded wings at rest, Nice head dark mask, No dark marks in P4, P5 Inner web with white between grey and black subterminal mark.....
Some pics.
I would like your opinion about this nice gull.
All the best
Antonio

Since no one else has answered: With my limited knowledge on/experience with this form I have a hard time seeing that it should be anything else than an atlantis.

The dark hood, mantle colour like graellsii or a bit lighter looks good. Black markings on p4 would be even better so far I remember but I don´t think it´s necessary.

I hope to find such a bird one day in one the harbours in Northern Jutland, Denmark.

Best wishes, Rune Sø Neergaard

Hi,

Looks very good for " atlantis", beside plumage features, the bird has a short tibia.

Perhaps of limited use alone, but the dark scales on front tarsus seem tipical for "atlantis", and this bird shows it too.

Found this one,two years ago, in Peniche, W Portugal:
