Hi Gents,
motivated by Michal I can confirm that - as said previously - dark spotting varies a lot in adult pure cachinnans: most have medium to intense dark spotting, but few have completely non-spotted irides (below 10% in our samples from Ukraine and Poland). The background colour varies in the same way - some have whitish-yellow, others a bit darker and warm in tone, but again few have 'cold', nearly whitish colour that we usually associate with herring etc. I will post some example pics later on.
Best,
Greg

Re: Caspian with pale iris from Poland
Hi again
Concerning the Jankowice colony this year, Jacek told me, that it was completely flooded - the sand-pit is 200 m from Vistula river - and no young survived - after c-ringing ;-(
All chicks c-ringed this year in S PL (200+, plus several adults, PDxx etc.) are from another colony in SW, which is located at a 'safe' Kozielno reservoir (smaller river, much lower water during both floods, thus mortality caused by floods didn't occur).
Best,
Greg
