Adult Glaucous Gull in Austria!

Post by WolfgangSchweighofer » Mon Nov 01, 2010 6:41 pm

At least I hope it is one - but what else should it be?

This evening at the gull roost near Melk, power station, river Donau, this individual occured. Last accepted Glaucous in Austria was 1979, a 1st winter.

Hi guys, I can understand that wishes very well. Last year I had asked Michal to send me one from Lubna ;)
But believe me: Here in Austria several people are wishing exactly the opposite!
In early morning I drove to the power station to see how many people there are. 6 cars from different parts of Austria had arrived during night. While they were waiting at the wrong wall (gulls had changed to the upper wall) I went to the right place and was able to spot the bird again for 1 or 2 minutes! Only 2 persons (with bikes) had seen the Glaucous swimming in the upper water of the power station, the top lister of Austria´s C300 among them.

What I can say: The bird has left the wall downstream, eastwards...

The Glaucous Gull moves east! A lot of twitchers havn´t been successful at Melk yesterday evening but today afternoon the gull was rediscovered at powerstation Greifenstein near Vienna. Chances for Hungary are increasing ;)
