Melanism in Blacked -headed Gulls

Post by cometrider » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:38 pm

I came across a Melanistic Blacked-headed Gull recently. I've not come across one before so I'm thinking this is very rare. Would that be a correct assumption?

I captured the bird on video which you can view here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYbpv34kXsU

I'm pretty sure it wasn't oiled. Those feathers were nice and fluffy.
