i guess pete's questioning about the correlation of late moulters with eastern birds will remain without answer - no statistical data about heinei?

hans, do you have larger pics to post them here, i think we'd be interested to see this bird up to the allowed 800 pxl..?
especially those very dark GC are really unusual and show the possible variation!

Yes, indeed a bit confusing to spot a "juvenile Baltic Gull" in early spring

Just received this image from Willem Pompert, photographed 28-11-2011. Extensively 'hooded' Common Gull at IJmuiden beach, the Netherlands. Should this be the darker end of the hood in winter adults of canus canus? Or still well within the limits?

Here is a link to the most darkly hooded Common Gull that I can find on the web. A little darker than the Ijmuiden bird posted.
