HG with yellowish legs?

Post by hieraaetus » Wed Nov 02, 2011 1:49 pm

Hi Guys,

I took some pictures of this gull today (11.02.) at my local spot near Debrecen, Hungary.

I would like to hear your opinion if this is a HG or something else..Some features seem to support it some don't.
What I think:
- 2nd picture, upperwing looks good for HG,CG but no YLG
- 1st picture, underwing: P10 full white tip but P5 has a narrow (broken?) black band..Still better for HG
- mantle color was pretty much the same as YLGs...hmmm
- orbital ring reddish but not as strong as YLGs, eyes very pale, and of course the head streaking is well developed
- moult: much advanced for HG, YLGs are at this stage right now here..
- and the yellowish legs....
- it was quite small, female?

Cheers,

Gabor

Hi Gabor,
I can only completely agree with you. Herring Gull in my opinion.

Hi Luka,
You soon deserve one with a ring from one of the countries bordering the Baltic Sea.

Already done, here is one of my babes.

Herring Gull
Hiddensee EA-126149 + green X49H

f 12.11.2004 Konin/Wielkopolskie 52.12 N 18.12 E POL 416 km
f 27.12.2004 Jankusevec 45.50 N 16.00 E CRO 986 km

An exeptional trip for a German HG, indeed.
