2 or 3cy Smith candidate, Iceland

Post by Stefan » Wed Nov 14, 2018 5:59 pm

On the 18th of March 2006, Yann Kolbeinsson found 2 Smith candidates, both in Sandgerði, SW-Iceland. The former individual shown several good pro smith features e.g. smooth underparts, glaucous type bill, the secondaires are all black, the tail feathers (apart from the outermost ones) are all black and the upper tail coverts are heavily barred and dusky axillaries. What is unusual is the large and highly white inner primary window, and thus could suggest it to be a retarded 3cy. It is not possible to inspet the eyes, but these can provide clues wehther it is 2 or 3cy.
