This herring gull was found and photographed by Bengt Bengtsson, in Simrishamn, South Sweden on the 7th of November 2019, and was present until at least 13th of November. What is striking is the smooth upper and underparts and darker hindneck. However the barring of the upper and under tail coverts is quite sparse, giving the impression of whitish undertone in the rump/upper tail coverts. The scapular feathers appear to be from the same generation and the greater coverts do not quite fit an american herring gull. Herring gulls with such smooth under and upperparts are not common.
