In analogy to other sections on the Gull Research site; Amir (Israel), Hannu (Finland) and myself (Holland) are preparing a section on Baltic Gulls – nominate fuscus. Hopefully this will give a better understanding of moult timing and strategy in this taxon, when we have sufficient data from both summer and winter. If anyone has been to Egypt, Kenya, Uganda or such regions in winter and if you have pictures, moult scores, or any other interesting data of this taxon, and you like to share it, please send an email to me. We are especially interested in ringed birds.
To get an idea of the first concept:

The adult April section has been added as well. For all months, ringed birds are present now. In due time, the central cells for the month pages will be filled with article summaries, tables, field research and the like...
Thanks to Hannu & Amir!!!

Due to some work on the cachinnans section, fuscus had to queue a while. Just found some time to add another 188 pictures of magnifiscent birds, photographed by (who else) Amir Ben Dov in Israel. Many thanks to Amir.

Dear Mars,

I have some pictures from Malaga (Spain) of ringed birds that I'll send you for this section. I also would like to show two pictures of a gull without ring that I think it's baltic, taken last weekend in Malaga harbour. As you can see, structure and moult are good for baltic taxa

During spring migration it's possible to see some gulls like this in the Malaga area together graellsii and intermedius birds, although is difficult to see it with rings

Regards

Salva

Hi Salvador,
Looks good for nominate fuscus. But it will not be very easy to find adult-like birds in February with this moult stage. Your bird is really late...

Hi Mars,

Yesterday I'be seen this gull in Malaga harbour. It has the restricts exactly like another I saw the January 27, 2013 in the same place. I think the moult of this gull fits better with this time

Do you think that it could be a 3 winter gull?

Thanks!

Salva
