Color-ringed YLG in Hungary

Post by hieraaetus » Sun Aug 17, 2014 7:23 pm

Hi Guys,

I observed a color-ringed adult YLG at my local patch on August 15th in Debrecen, Hungary. It sported a dark-blue ring on the right tibia with whitish inscriptions : AH reading from top down. The metal ring was also on the tibia on the left leg.
I have already checked here:
http://www.cr-birding.org/colourproject ... &=Alkalmaz
,however, neither of those fit my bird.
I have attached a poor record shot of the bird.

I would appreciate any help from you regarding this case.

Cheers,

Gabor

This is good place to check but what I found doesn't fit to your case as well. Or the species is wrong, or the ring is broken or was not read correctly.

Dear Boris,

Thanks for the link. I have checked that before and there was only one picture of a color ring placed on the tibia from Spain and the ring color was yellow. The bird wasn't close enough to judge how much of the ring could have been hidden, however, the letters AH are 99% sure readings. The color of the ring was deep blue, but if it was black being the only other color it could have been and I saw it to be blue for some reason, still doesn't help out..
Actually I found a project using rings like that on tibia: http://www.cr-birding.org/node/2031
but then the species should be 'argentatus'..

Cheers,

Gabor

Could fit the project run by Roland-Jan Buijs <rjbuijs@hetnet.nl> (The Netherlands). RJ rings probably few michahellis but some of his birds could be hybrids…

At least here in Lithuania, many HG are yellow-legged, so might be one of those tricky ones, so I guess try send it to the project coordinator. Might be interesting to post what they did answer later...
Cheers,
