barabensis migration?

Post by lou bertalan » Mon Sep 23, 2013 7:26 pm

hi,

is there any reference for on-the-route stops of steppe gull in migration and are there reliable timetables for leaving breeding grounds, stopover sightings and arriving at wintering grounds? when do the first steppe gulls arrive the gulf?

Hi Lou, there is some data here:

Barabensis is an early arrive in the gulf, from September onwards. Here is some more data:

thanks a lot mars,
i trawled the materials on org but couldn't specifically find any arrival date in the gulf. is that a personal obs. of yours?
someone asked which gulls these are: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=267079, large pic here: http://kookherdbirds.persiangig.com/ima ... rge-ID.jpg - they were photographed recently in southern iran (kookherd). i was pending between cachi and barabensis but the yellow legs that all 3 show at this timeand slightly later primary moult let me incline more towards barabensis. structurally they look more like cachinnans. possibly they are from kazakhstan ;)

cheers and thanks,

lou
