This 4cy (3rd cycle) herring gull was photographed by Brynjúlfur Brynjólfsson on the 5th of February 2019 at Höfn. It is a 3rd cycle herring gull it has a quite a lot of black in the tail feathers. The secondaries are brownish rather than blackish (thus suggesting HG over AHG), and thus not contrasting with the GCs. The 3rd cycle median coverts thus contrast with the 2nd cycle secondaries, GCs and LCs, giving it odd upperwing patterns. The band on P5 shold be ideally thicker and not broken at this age for AHG.
