A 2cy uncommon gull
On my way to do some 'local patching' on 27th of october 2013 a strange looking gull caught my attention. A quick second view the bird looked more like a large common gull with some black markings on the tertials, a heavy bill with black spot (RBG?). Parked my car to take some pictures. I could shoo...

Baltic gull in the Netherlands
Finally a proper BALTIC GULL with a colourring on my local patch the Kanaleneiland in Utrecht. It's a 4cy bird from Horsvaer, Buøya, Norway with a black ring code J9LL. Structure of the bird is like you'll expect from a Balt, a bit common gull like (small, round head, long winged). This bird doesn't...

smallest mirror on P9 ever?
On the 18th of march I visited my local patch with Bram Rijksen to look for some nice (colourringed) gulls (Caspian, Yellow legged, Baltic..). In the first mixed group of Common and Black headed gulls Bram found an odd looking Common gull (CG) with a very pale yellowish eye. I took some pictures wit...

Re: Mirror on P8
Today this bird was present at my local patch (Houten, Utrecht, the Netherlands). All white p10, small marking on p9 and a mirror on p8. Not a very common primary pattern to me.

Re: Possible Smithsonianus in Holland
The true id of the Den Oever bird is found in a fresh faeces sample. See this link for the id. So close to smithsonianus..., in my opinion but still a Larus argentatus. I've learned a lot the last weeks.

Re: Possible Smithsonianus in Holland
Hi Jan, Thanks for your reply. About the colour of the tertials, if you look at the pictures of the article of Mullarney & Lonergan plate 61-66 they look blackish indeed but the DO-bird shows a few blackish and darkbrown tertials. Would this be within the variation? And this bird or this bird shows ...

Possible Smithsonianus in Holland
Hello everyone, Some of you know me, others don't. A quick introduction. The last three years I kind of got infected with the gullwatching virus. A nearby wastedump Barneveld is where it all started. The first winter Glaucous gull was the blame of it all. Last sunday 22 januari 2012 I found a possib...

Re: Yellow billed 1 cy LBBG
Another yellow bill graellsii (a 2cy). This time in the Netherlands at a waste dump in Barneveld. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/birdaddict/5732938877/in/photostream for some pictures. Beside the bill the colour of the mantle was a bit strange for a graellsii. Could be some kind of pigmentation pr...
