Re: Viking Gull?
Hi Mars and Theo, I haven't made a sketch yet, but based on my field notes I'll try to make one tonight. Short description: - P10: black markings on both inner and outer vane. Marking on outer vane is only 1/5 of the total length, the marking on the inner vane doesn't reach the edge of the feather. ...

Viking Gull?
Hi everyone, I'd like to get some opinions on this bird (seen on a roost in Belgium this evening, hence the poor quality of the pics). As I'm very unexperienced with Viking Gulls it's hard for me to evaluate potential overlap with leucistic Herring Gulls. http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/7443/img3...

Re: Confusing juvenile LBBGs
Peter,
many thanks for the explanation, especially for the clue about the undertail pattern. I've probably overlooked that second image in your album.

Confusing juvenile LBBGs
While studying some pictures of juvenile lesser black backed gulls I encountered some birds which caused me a real headache. Of course yellow legged gulls start post juvenile moult earlier compared to most lesser black backed gulls, have paler inner primaries etc. but for some individuals I find it ...

A detailled shot of the ring, sadly I don't have any shots of the other side.

YLG?
I've got some doubts about this gull's ID. Although it shows some YLG characteristics its feet seem rather pale ,lighter and with a yellowish tone compared to the herring gulls of the same age- but the picture doesn't seem to show this in a right way- and a lot paler compared to the YLG in the backg...
