Theo, I disagree. Most seems to be Caspians.Theo Muusse wrote:I see many straightforward herring gulls, a few uncertain from only one picture and just a few birds I would call 'pure' cachinnans.
The graellsii type is interesting, given the location, half way between graellsii and heuglini territory...

Re: cr-gull green XLEN
All colonies in Lausitz are +/- mixed.
Gräbendorfer See (Reddern) is dominated by Caspians with some HG, Sedlitz mixed HG + CG.
YLG is in minority, >10%.
Many gulls in the colonies are hybrids, because they interbreed since 20 years.
But the number of pure CG is increasing.

A determination as chick mostly means nothing in these mixing colonies with hybridization. Best way is their identification later.

Sedlitz exist since over 20 years and is clearly mixed, also with some YLG as third component. Interbreeding is common. Unf...

Re: using wing tags on gulls
Wing-tags will be lost or broken after a few years. In my opinion colour-rings are better for long-living species like gulls.

Re: Breeding numbers of cachinnans in Germany
Maybe around 300, many of them in mixed pairs. The biggest colony is the Gräbendorf Lake near Altdöbern (Reddern).
