I received this image from Amir:
Yesterday, 16.3.12 and today 17.03.2012 (with Ehud Dovrat), I observed the oldest ever gull recorded in Israel: Baltic Gull Ring HT-054.651.
The bird was seen already on 09.03.2010 in Ashdod (and already than was the oldest). The bird was ringed on 09.07.1983 in YLOJARVI, HAME, Finland 61.41N 23.43E by MARTTi LAGERSTROM as a young out of nest.
It is now 28.9 years old.
It was seen 4 times since ringing (in 4.5.08 Tampere Finland) and 3 times in Israel (once 2010 and twice 2012).
An overview of metal & colour ringed birds:

By the way, that same day Risto celebrated, together with Finnish ornithological organisations, the 40th anniversary and the BirdLife Finland seminar (Risto talked here about "25 Years of Gull Research".He was then honoured with the "Golden decoration" of BirdLife Finland (with table standard = a type of small fleg of BirdLife Finland). Two other people received the "Silver decoration".

Re: longevity records for gulls
The longevity record for Black-headed Gull is currently held by Arnhem 3.275.396
* ringed as chick on 25 June 1978.
* last observation (metal ring read) on 21 March 2011 (Zoetermeer, ring read by Benny Middendorp).
* elapsed time 32 years, 8 months and 24 days.
See a recently published paper in Dutch Birding (New longevity records of Black-headed Gull, with comments on wear and loss of aluminium rings, Dutch Birding 34 [2012, issue 1, page 20-31]) for details and for more records of Black-headed Gulls reaching a high age.
This paper can be downloaded from http://frankmajoor.nl/PDF/Black-headed_ ... e20-31.pdf
Best wishes,
Klaas van Dijk

Re: longevity records for gulls
The record of the oldest known Black-headed Gull seems to have been broken (by 4 months). The weblog of the Dutch organization Natuurmomumenten reports that a Black-headed Gull fitted with a British ring was found dead on the Dutch coast last May and turned out to have been ringed in 1979, making it 33 years old.
