Today 1.2.2013 at Ares beach, A Coruna, NW Spain a very dark gull....
A presumed atlantis ??? or simply an odd and very dark gull

The head does not look like a michahellis to me.
The pictures are missing details, but the dark plumage with heavily patterned uppertail-coverts, undertail-coverts and the wing-coverts and dark tail do look like a smithsonianus.
I hope you can make better pictures!!

This is certainly no smiths; see e.g. the dark inner primaries and white rump.
Lesser Black-backed Gull seems like the best bet to me.
