Hello all, new to the forum. Have been a user of Birdforum for a while, but my interest in gulls in particular led me here through a link.
The bird below has been tentatively id'd as a possible first winter/2cy YLG, but I'd like a bit more expert opinion before I log it as such (it would be my first sighting in the UK). Seen a week ago on the south coast of the UK between Brighton and Eastbourne.
Certainly the scapular pattern is unusual and was what made me notice the bird initially. Looking at photos online YLG is the only species I can find with similar scap pattern.
It was among a flock of ~300 GBBG and a few LBBG and HG. The other possibility I can think of is a first winter/2cy LBBG, but as was noted on Birdforum the scapular pattern is unusual for that species.
No flight shots I'm afraid. Opinions?
Thanks
Mick
