I don't see much wrong with pure Caspian in the picture above? But maybe I've seen too many hybrids here in Poland

Re: 2nd cy gull
i see it the same way, a male cach with a lot of head striation.Ruud Altenburg wrote:I don't see much wrong with pure Caspian in the picture above? But maybe I've seen too many hybrids here in Poland
steve mentioned its jizz in field as being micha-headed but i guess it's the combination of large eye and striation that produced this. i even speculated that birds with little or no 2nd gen. coverts could more likely be from the northern belt of cach breeding distribution but...what does it help.

I agree that thre´s not a real problem for Steve's gull being a Caspian (from this pic) - both plumagewise and structure. However, due to angle, the bill dimension is not fully visible. The leg colour seems a bit odd, with it´s yellowish hue, both foot, tarsus and tibia. As much as I can´t recall seeing this before, is it a problem?
The amount of head streaking - which is not that intense - I would consider as not a major problem! Some variation is fully normal, consider that the white headed appearance is mostly due to bleaching and not so much to moult and it´s consequence ahead in time.

Today in Stockholm Sweden by Alan Dalton.
Rather fresh coverts and Herring inner primaries.

Edit:
I did infact put this in the wrong section! Should have been in the Herring Gull section.

If we all agree on 'simply belonging to argentatus', it may be a good idea indeed to put it in the Herring Gull section. And based on the tail pattern, I can already think of a name for the topic as well.Today in Stockholm Sweden by Alan Dalton. Rather fresh coverts and Herring inner primaries.
