Some hove I can´t find photos of cachinnans with the same November-plumage as this one:

When seeing the gull the upper part pattern, the rather marked underwings (besides small white armpit patch), dark head pattern and some hove strong bill made me consider whether it was in fact a pure cachinnans. I get some mixed feelings of both michahellis and cachinnans.

nice photos of a pure 1cy cachinnans! such well marked individuals can have rel. dark underwing and belly (but note that ground colour is still pale), weak "window", scapulars with darker grey groundtone and more massive dark marks, diamond (rhomboidal) or anchor shaped, depending on which ones. to me this well within variation of a pure cach, especially since structurally it is absolutely OK. have a look at the daark september birds from the m,outh of danube here: pics 1-2, 4-6 are from nobvember. after that the september pics. http://lou.bertalan.de/gulls/m_grp.php? ... nans%201cy

Hi Kent, take a look at these pictures in Varna, Bulgaria, only a few days ago.

For me is a pure cachinnans, maybe not a typical for "Identification guide" but anyway, cachi.

Remember that, 1st winter scapulars moulted over a period of time have a different pattern.
