Hi all,

another funny bird from Alcazar landfill. This time a 1cy.

I'd like to know your first impressions about this beauty. I've seen very similar dark morph Caspian Gulls in Bulgaria.

Interestingly, I could hear its voice once, and it was a rude and brief "Caaac". And it was the last bird to fly among the whole flock of gulls.

As usual, any comment or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks and happy 2011!

Gabi

Hi Gabi,

I would identify this one as a (dark) Caspian Gull too.

absolutely, a very pretty dark caspian! where exactly did you take the bulgarian pics, varna? the first one (2812) isn't that clear cut but the lower scaps pattern looks good indeed. the second one (3543) is the one of the most beautiful large gulls i have ever seen, i'd really like to include it in my romanian pics collection, do you have a larger resolution of it? 3rd one has a strange, complicated scaps pattern but looks to be fine, 4th is classic, 5th (8601) is an odd bird, not even clear if not a michahellis but some lower scaps seem to be juvenile, so maybe it has argentatus blood?..some thoughts.

all the best & good gulling 2011!

Hi Lou!

Of course, I will send you the pics. Also whatever you want from my photo set.

I use to go to Varna to see some Bulgarian friends, and explore the urban beaches and the outskirts of town. I'm going again in 20 days!

Cheers and happy new year full of gulls!

Gabi
