I can understand the confusion but I would call this a Herring Gull because the plumage appears very fresh, and the inner primaries pale.
Also, the bird still has some juvenile lower scapulars.

Agree with Peter that this is more likely a female type Herring on the features mentioned.
Here´s a few argentatus tails:

a few more pics of this ind., still labelled as michahellis from today: http://www.dofbasen.dk/search/result.ph ... ering=dato

i agree, that this is a long winged female argentatus - scap pattern also much better for this sp.
after a short check in cr-birding.org it should belong to this group: http://www.cr-birding.org/node/332
mr. pedersen shold be able to provide its ringing details?

The Enghave individual should be compared to this one:

well besides the bird shows black and white tail , there is nothing in this gull that exclude argentatus . kjeld t. pedersen id. the bird as michahellis when he ringed the gull http://www.dofbasen.dk/popobs.php?obs=o ... d=12014205 . a few days after I saw the bird and thought it must be a herring gull . here is a similar older case http://www.gull-research.org/hg/hg2cy/va33mar.htm
