Polish Caspian Gull 103P

My season for large winter gulls in central Austria seems to be closed now; with warmer weather they obviously moved north in the last days.

Checking old pic´s I have found an error yesterday. 2 years ago I was not experienced enough to decide correct between Polish "5" or "3". On 2-1-2008 I had reported a cy3 bird as "105P", but now I realized definitely that it had been 103P. And then I believed that I had seen this bird already somewhere in the web...

Ruud writes: "Further details will be added when I receive them." The way from Gdansk seems to be long . But I´m sure it was ringed on 6-6-2006 in Jankowice, like 105P.

So 103P is now the first bird in the Austrian list, which had visited Lubna dump before and it is the first one which was read by Ruud before it came in front of my eyes

Hallo Wolfgang,

I can report that in the same year 103P made it back safely to the Łubna dump! The disadvantage of watching gulls in August on a rubbish tip is not only the smell but also the heat waves, hence the very poor record shot...

BTW, I never received any decent reports from the Jankowice colour rings...

Thanks, Ruud, for the information! I have added this observation to the bird´s life list, but I hope to get the complete list from Gdansk later.

Since spring 2009 Gdansk sends out life histories for all birds. Nevertheless many birds have no more observations except of the ringing data, especially cachinnans from Jankowice. I have noticed that their rings are often stained while birds of Wloclawek often have a clear white inscription after years. Seems that it depends on the kind of water or soil in the surrounding of the breeding colonies...

The first cachinnans flock in December was processed within 3 weeks and only 1 of this Jankowice birds had an additional recovery in neighbouring Hungary. Now there is again a delay in Gdansk, no further reports from late December on...

I just have seen that my frined 103P has its own topic
I'm glad to see that these gull was observed by you guys and i can share its life history in these international company
My picture was made in september 2010 at Łubna - unfortaunatelly i also havent receive any ringing data.

Hi Michal,

this bird has been ringed on 6-6-2006 in Jankowice. I still don´t have ringing data for this bird but for the misread 105P. I had reported my correction to Gdansk RC some month ago but still have got no answer so far. But I think the given data are 99,7% right because all neighbouring numbers like 084P or 120P have the same data...
