These year 256 juvenile capsian gulls was ringed with yellow rings with PUxx code.
All these birds was ringed in Ukraine in (theoreticaly) pure cachinnans colony.
Some of these birds mirgate trough central Poland and stay at Łubna dump.
My first record of PU ringed bird was at 24.07 but photo documentation was poor.
Yesterday i was more lucky and 3 new rings was present at Łubna.

Hi Michal,

intersting information - I will waite for them next winter.

Seems that these are Polish rings, who is responsible for them?

And btw: What effects had the flood catastrophes in Poland for the breeding success of Caspian Gulls?

Best wishes
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,
i hope that some of them will visit yours winter paths.
Yes that are polish rings made by Interrex. These 256 rings are only a part of large international project ringing gulls from Poland to far east in Russia. Main aim of of these study is to better known hybridisation of large gulls in Russia but there was extra money for ringing cachinnans - aim was to better known variability of juvenile caspian from pure colonies. All these informations are from Greg Neubauer who is also one of a leaders of these projects.
And flood - these year all breeding colonies was destroyed. Breending succes was zero also water significant change shape of breding islands on Wisla so we have to wait next year to see how gulls will react for totally different landscapes.

Cheers
Michal

Found this "not so white-headed ;-)" PU ring on the blog:
http://kolring.blogspot.com/
date: Monday, 19 July 2010
"... Last friday i took my pontoon and voyaged around Miedwie lake. Mainly i've tried to detect a roosting place of starlings and swallows (observed few days earlier thousands of birds flew to a reed). I was suprissed when i saw a young Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans). You can say nothing special in Poland, but ok it's breeding in the south of our country...so at least must flew about 200-300 km. Anyway i'll find out it soon, becouse the bird had yellow, plastic ring with code PUHP (for 99% ringed by Jacek Betleja)... "
