Unringed birds

Post by marsmuusse » Mon Feb 20, 2012 9:49 pm

I don't know if we have to create separate topics for taxa? Maybe just show the whole bunch of buggers here, to illustrate the magnificent time we had on the Zagreb dump!

For instance, we had seven birds from the Lesser Black-backed Gull complex.
No 1: adult with active moult in the inner secondaries and P10. Indication for heuglini. Originally found on Saterday 18 February 2012, by Albert Cama Torell, at the parking lot next to the dump. Again on Sunday, now feeding on the dump.

Attached images of No 1.

Lesser Black-backed Gull complex, seven birds present at Zagreb.

No 2: adult with snowy white head. Lacking streaking, even in the hindneck.

No 3: adult with mirrors on both P9 and P10. Images of this bird attached.

Most gulls must have been Black-headed Gulls. For me, the constant sound of calling, begging and 'laughing' Cachinnans and the absolute beauty of these birds was really a highlight. Just gorgeous and dazzlingly beautiful birds...

Bewildering and sometimes confusing primary tip patterns in adult michahellis. Interesting eastern birds, in some respects different from S France michahellis.

Bird no 4: the 'lesser black-backed gull' caught with cannon netting, compared to michahellis.
