Re: Odd 2cy bird - February 27th 2014
just to bring this back onto top. my view is this is most likely a pure albeit not typical (baltic?/russian?) herring gull. michahellis excluded on retarded plumage, small round head, long slim bill, filigrane scap pattern, overall dark body and short wings. inner primaries show a venetian blind pattern but many baltic HG look like this. there might be the question on how likely an involvement of cachinnans is in such a phenotype: it has a longish slim bill but tip is curved/blunt. it has a scap pattern with very thin subterminal mark. and it has the venetian blind window. tail har dto assess. what do you guys think?
