Small cachinnans or... fuscus?

Post by michal rycak » Sun Aug 01, 2010 8:27 pm

Hi,
i have mixed opions about these bird.
Pro cachinnans features - maybe little female: small, elongated bird, with rather white underwing, with white moons on primaries, on photo with spread wing there is someting like impressions of white window on primaries - left wing.
But some voices points it for eastern fuscus-complex bird.
Im curious about yours opinion of these bird.

Cheers
Michal

Hello Michal.

From your description and by the looks of the juvenile gull - cachinnans would be the better choice. Not the first time nom. fuscus and cachinnans have been mixed up.

It's a very dark specimen indeed, but note that it's already quite worn and moulting scapulars and wing coverts. LBBGs typically still look fresh at this time of year!

Another tricky for me bird form today spotted at Łubna.
I'm happy to read your opinions about it.

I see a LBBG, but I'm not able to decided about the subspecies.
