hi,
http://www.viata-salbatica.ro/gallery/a ... 4-Edit.jpg
this bird photographed around mid july in southern romania by florian andronache obviously should be a juv cachinnans. there are however mostly michahellis breeding around (city of ploiesti, north of bucharest) and certain 1cy michahellis can have quite pale underwings. my question is if there's enough to nail it 100% as a cach? GC seem blurry but there's not the classical pale GC tips. tail pattern doesn't seem to give a conclusive hint, bill is within variation of both, such pale axilliaries however i think i have not seen in michahellis yet. warm ground tone adds to the cach impression.
have a look at young michs also: (from ploiesti by florian)

Looks like a YLG to me?
Re: juvenile cach
Agree to that! Some YLG have unusually unmarked underwing.Ruud Altenburg wrote:Looks like a YLG to me?

Re: juvenile cach
thanks ruud and jan.
that explains my uncomfort
the bird indeed looks quite contrasting and has a hanging gonys. but bill is pretty slim (not high) and then this extreme pale underwing, especially pale inner primaries in their basal part. i should better study more juveniles...
