This gull as been seen today at Cascais-Portugal, first impression is smithsonianus like, white head dark brest, but tail doesn´t seem smith like.
Head is rather odd also, with big eyes, and eye mask can be seen also...extensive grey on mantle and upperwing seems extensive in some photos for a 1st year gull.
First I thought of herring, but yllg similarities can be seen, or not?
What do you guys think?

On the inner primaries, tail and undertail-coverts, I would say; herring gull.
Its a very dark bird, okay.
No smith though.

Thank you Theo,
The grey upperparts, on the 4 th photo, could they be a photo/light effect, or is it a 2 cy bird?
2cy Herrings could show such dark underwings?
Happy New year to all,
Rui
